Shuting's Works & Thoughts

Beginning Note from Shuting

It is my pleasure to have you here to explore my thoughts and experiences. I believe engineering is a force that shapes the future. Through thoughtful design and cutting-edge solutions, I aim to create technologies that enhance the way we live, work, and connect. Grounded in mechanical and optomechanical systems, my goal is to contribute to innovations that drive meaningful change, whether through smarter machines, seamless human-tech interaction, or scalable systems built with purpose. At the heart of it all, I’m driven by curiosity, precision, and a deep commitment to building a better world through engineering.

 My Projects

Some of the interesting released projects I have been focused on

For B&W Tek Metrohm

QTRam/QTSampler

qtram_qtsampler.jpg

QTSampler is a rapid, non-destructive analyzer for pills and capsules. It uses Transmission Raman Spectrometry to perform quantitative pharmaceutical analysis.

The product is among the first portable transmission Raman spectrometers on the market for pharmaceutical product analysis, as opposed to large batch analyzers, such as Agilent TRS100. Thus, the mechanical design of the product is challenging and requires some unconventional thinking.

Following the described needs in FRS, I designed ...

PTRam Raman Analyzer

The PTRam is a portable, self-calibrating Raman analyzer developed for in-line and process development testing in labs and pilot plants. It enables real-time monitoring and analysis and was built with industrial users in mind—prioritizing durability and seamless integration into industrial environments. Below are several design aspects that I paid close attention to throughout the development.

Regulatory Compliance- Since the PTRam is typically used alongside other rack-mounted industrial equipment, such as data processing...

Raman Immersion Probe

This project gives a demonstration of some of the smaller design projects I took on over time. It’s a handheld Raman 1064 immersion probe, built for collecting spectroscopy data directly from liquid samples inside containers. Below are some of the design considerations I made during the design process.

Material Selection- Since some of the test liquids claimed in FRS were harsh chemicals, the probe needs to be chemically resistant and waterproof at the same time. Kalrez o-rings were selected for their superior chemical resistance. Careful compression calculation was ...

Nomad Pro 2 X-Ray System

nomad_pro_2_edited.png

The NOMAD Pro 2 project was launched as part of a strategic initiative to bring key aspects of design and manufacturing in-house, following the product’s acquisition by Danaher through Aribex. Building on the foundation of the original NOMAD Pro, this next-generation model focuses on enhancing manufacturability and ease of assembly.

High-Voltage Transformer Design- To support the transition to in-house manufacturing, the high-voltage transformer was redesigned from the ground up. Plastic injection-molded parts were developed to facilitate ...
